กล้องส่องทางไกล (Telescope London 1885)
A reproduction looks brand new, as if it was just shipped from the factory. No attempt has been made to make it look old. A fake has been "antiqued". The wooden box may be distressed, the brass has been treated with a chemical to oxidize the finish and dull it unevenly. Often the only sign of a fake is that the lenses are brand-new looking. Sometimes even the lenses have been fogged, as in the case of the Stanley scope below.
The Stanley London® 18-inch Spyglass Telescopes are available in both polished brass and leather sheathed versions. Either telescope provides a bright and sharp, highly magnified non-inverted (upright) image and is 2 1/8-inches (5.5 cm) in diameter and 6 5/8 inches (16.8 cm) long when collapsed. These 12-power telescopes have four brass pipes, with the largest pipe being tapered. A built-in sunshade extends to reduce lens flare. When fully extended, the telescopes measure 17 5/8 inches (44.8 cm) long. The diameter of the multi-coated objective lens is 37.25 mm. The telescopes are solid, weighing 1 pound, 3 ounces (539 grams) for the polished brass version, and over 1 pound, 4 ounces (578 grams) for the leather sheathed version. Both are constructed entirely of threaded solid brass tubing and fittings with no glued components.
